Man held for thrashing wife with helmet at Balasore court

BALASORE: Sahadvekhunta police on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly thrashing his estranged wife with a helmet on the premises of the Balasore family court. The two had come to the court to attend their divorce petition hearing.
The man has been identified as Ratikant Panigrahi (40) of Majhikia area under Chandipur police station in the district.Sources said Ratikant and his wife Rashmirekha had filed for divorce three years ago. While the two had come to the court for the hearing of the case on Tuesday, a heated exchange of words erupted between them. It later turned violent.
Ratikant lost his cool and hit Rashmirekha with a helmet repeatedly on the head and other parts of her body. Hit on the head, the woman collapsed. She was admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
The daughter of the couple said,"My father said something objectionable to my mother regarding my marriage. As she opposed it, he thrashed her with a helmet." Subhranshu Shekhar Nayak, IIC of Sahadevkhunta police station, a case has been registered against Ratikant.
